Virtual Trips Integrated Social Studies and Art

January 26th, 2021

The Grade 5 class learned about First Nations artists. Lessons are integrated from Social Studies and Art class, viewing paintings and art sculptures from Canadian galleries and museums. The teacher and students discussed the variety of styles and techniques, and the inspiration for many pieces, including legends, spiritual beliefs, and social and political issues.

After viewing art pieces on a slideshow, students were welcome to explore more art by virtually visiting museums and galleries with links provided (i.e. Art Gallery of Ontario, Bear Claw Gallery, Vancouver Art Gallery, etc.)

Following the Class’s remote "field trip" students designed their own First Nations-inspired artworks as adhered photos.
