Montessori

Montessori at Bond believes that before a child can take advantage of a good education, he or she needs to discover how to learn. Only then can we aid a child in the development of basic skills and in his or her ability to judge, think and create. Montessori at Bond introduces your child to the joy of learning by providing a framework in which intellectual and social discipline can develop. When your child learns how to think and reason, he or she can then give intelligent responses. We welcome you to our school and encourage you to observe for yourself what makes our school special for your child. Download the Program Flyer

The Montessori Method

Dr. Maria Montessori was Italy's first female physician. Her work with children led to her discovery that they have a natural drive to learn, and they have a natural rhythm to learning. Given the right environment (including the physical surroundings, other children and the actions of the adults present) each child is uniquely qualified to teach himself or herself a great deal in a relaxed and positive way.

The Montessori environment allows for an individual approach that is exactly suited to each child. Growth and rate of advancement varies from child to child and with each skill. However, when learning is natural and self-paced, and the child is presented with the proper instruments and direction, he or she can become self motivated and excited about learning. There are five curriculum areas within the classroom: Practical Life Skills, Cultivating the Five Senses, Numeracy, Literacy and Culture.

Practical Life Skills

The Practical Life Skills area teaches students about Care of the Environment, Care of Self, Life Skills, and Grace and Courtesy. Skills such as pouring, transferring, cleaning and dressing are taught through a variety of materials. The children learn to clean up after themselves, putting away their work when finished or cleaning spills.

Cultivating the Five Senses

Students develop the five senses (touch, sight, taste, smell and hearing) in the sensorial area of the Montessori Casa Program. Students manipulate the materials to understand their own senses, as well as strengthen fine motor skills and coordination. The students also learn left to right sequencing for reading and writing, and the concept of 10 for the decimal system.

Early Start Numeracy - Mathematics

Students build a solid foundation of mathematical concepts in our Early Start Numeracy program. The Montessori math materials move from concrete to abstract. Each material builds on a skill previously mastered through earlier exercises.

Early Start Literacy - Language

The sensitive period for language is birth to age six. Children absorb language very easily, including vocabulary, grammar rules and syntax. Correct names are also used to expand their vocabulary. Students learn to read, sound out words and to spell very easily when they are taught the phonetic sounds of the letters. Indirect preparation for reading and writing is found in every aspect of the Montessori environment, including left to right sequencing, and pencil grip practice.

Education

We recognize the importance of your child's physical development. The benefits of instilling a love of athletics lasts a lifetime. We offer excellent physical and athletic development facilities, including a swimming program, gymnasium and creative playground area. Physical fitness is a daily activity in the Montessori Casa program, both within and outside the classroom.

Preschool Program

Our Preschool program provides students from the year they turn four to six with a prepared environment to meet the needs of your child. Students work individually and collaboratively with Montessori materials to engage his or her curiosity. The individualized program caters to the skill level and needs of each student. The students are free to observe and explore the wonders of the environment at their own pace. Through this approach, the students develop and nurture a love for learning.

Before & After School Programs

The Before and After School Programs provide a safe, secure and stimulating transition between the home and Bond Academy. The Before School Program runs from 7:00 a.m. to - 8:40 a.m. Parents drop off their children knowing they are safe and supervised by qualified staff. Following dismissal from class, the students are escorted to the After School Program. The After School Program closes at 5:30 p.m. and provides a variety of supervised activities including educational games, outdoor play time / gym time and a quiet area for individual play. As an important component of our safety and security initiatives, all Montessori Casa and Elementary students are enrolled at no additional cost.
