Anti-Asian Racism Is Real and I Will No Longer Hide

Anna Zhang is a second-year law student from the University of Toronto. She moved to Canada at age 4 and became a citizen at age 8. By age 7, "I didn't know how to add, subtract or write full sentences. Yet, I knew about racism, I knew about hate and I could see both of those things as clear as day."

In the article "Anti-Asian racism is real and I will no longer hide" published on April 5th, 2021 Toronto Star, Anna Zhang who is a second-year law student from the University of Toronto, illuminates the pejorative narratives that surround anti-AAPI sentiments in addition to describing her own transition into becoming unapologetic about her Chinese-Canadian cultural heritage. It is a very inspiring and empowering position to take. Let us applaud her for writing this article!

She wrote in her article:

"A few months ago, I was riding the streetcar in downtown Toronto when a white man, who appeared to be in his late 40s, walked on without a mask and sat in the blocked-off seat beside me. I looked at him, confused, uncomfortable and honestly, a bit annoyed."
