3 Canadian Universities Ranked the World’s Best

The University of Toronto, the University of British Columbia and McGill University have been rated among the U.S. News Best Global Universities ranking for 2021. The overall ranking encompasses nearly 1,500 top institutions spread across 86 countries, according to the methodology. Each university is scored based on factors like research reputation, publications and more.
While Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Stanford University take the top spots, the University of Toronto comes in at 17th. The University of British Columbia is ranked 31st, while Montreal’s McGill University comes in shared 51st place with China’s Peking University and Australia’s University of New South Wales.
Both University of Toronto and the University of British Columbia have climbed from similar rankings in 2020, moving up from 25th place and 45th place respectively.
As many as 36 Canadian institutions made the extended list, with Ontario’s McMaster University ranking in 133rd place alongside the University of Sheffield in Britain.
The University of Alberta also made the list, taking spot 138 globally, while the University of Montreal came in 140th.
The University of Calgary, University of Waterloo, University of Ottawa and Western University also ranked in the global top 300, with the University of Victoria coming in 301st.
