Welcome Back to Bond Secondary of 2023-204 School Year

Welcome new and returning students, parents and guardians!
A Few Updates Regarding the 2023-2024 school year as follows:
- Attached
- Classes begin at 8:55am and end at 3:40pm
- Students can receive one-on-one or small group support after school from their teachers from 3:40pm to 4:15pm from Monday to Thursday
- Students can then finish their homework in the presence of a teacher in our English and Math/Science Study Halls from 4:15pm to 5:15pm from Monday to Thursday
- Staff will be on hand on September 5th to show new students to their classes
- If a student is absent or late, please contact Jane Phillips at janep@bondacademy.ca from Monday to Thursday. On Friday’s please contact Noelta Albert at noeltaa@bondacademy.ca
- Late students can proceed to the main office for a late slip before proceeding to class
- Students who are signing out for an appointment can also proceed to the main office where a parent will be contacted for verification
2. 2023-2024 Timetable Distribution
- Timetables will be emailed from this account next week
- The timetable includes teacher name, room number and the times of each class
- Grades 9-11 students will take 4 courses in each of the two semesters.
- Grade 12 students will take 2 courses in Term 1, 2 courses in Term 2 and 4 courses in Semester 2.

3. Uniforms
Students can order their uniforms from InSchoolWear at: https://inschoolwear.com/.
They are required to have either a white Bond dress shirt or white Bond polo shirt. Girls can wear either grey dress pants or a green kilt. They can also wear black shoes. They don't have to be dress shoes, just predominantly black. Ties are not necessary as discussed. A blue Bond sweater is optional for the winter months with the Bond dress shirt.
4. Locker assignments
- Lockers will be assigned near each students 1st period classroom on the first day of class
- All students should bring a lock
5. Textbooks
- Book list attached
- It is best to wait until next week, until ordering textbooks in case there are any last minute changes by the publisher. All teachers will give students up to a week after school begins to get all of their textbooks.
You can also purchase textbooks from Alpha Textbooks either online or in-person. You typically have the option of choosing new or used textbooks from Alpha.

6. Cafeteria
The cafeteria is open daily for morning break and lunch. Students or their parents can order meals the night before using the following link:

7. Covid Policies
Bond follows all directions from the Ministry of Education and Toronto Public Health concerning Covid policies. If a student is displaying Covid symptoms, they can reference the screening tool and stay home if sick.

8. Extracurricular Clubs:
- These were the clubs that were offered last year and are subject to change.
- We do have student-led clubs as well, so students are encouraged to discuss club ideas with their teachers, Guidance Counselor or Principal.

9. Cell Phones
- Cell phones are not permitted during instructional time
- Students can put their phones on the desk provided by their teachers at the front of their classrooms
10. Student Drop-Off and Pick-Up
> Please drive slowly and be careful in our parking lots as there are a lot of children present during these times
11. Individual Education Plans (IEP’s)
- As it typically takes 2-3 weeks into the school year for Bond to receive the OSR's of new students, can you please email me at phild@bondacademy.ca, if your child has an IEP.
- This will allow our Head of Resource; Mrs. Sreekumary, to prepare accommodations for the students ahead of time.
12. Photo Day
> Will occur on Monday, September 25th
13. Online Course Opt-in/out Form
- The Ontario Government has mandated that all students complete 2 online courses as part of their Ontario Secondary School Diploma requirements
- Parents have the option of opting in or out of this program
- Please fill out the attached form if you have not previously done so and email it to me at phild@bondacademy.ca
- Current Gr. 12 students have been granted 1 online credit from online learning during the pandemic
14. Student Handbook
- Contains all rules and requirements at Bond Academy
- Will be shared with parents and students next week
15. Student Email and Moodle Accounts
- All students are given a Bond Microsoft account as well as a Moodle account to access their course documents
- The log-in info will be sent individually to each family next week
