Orientation Week for Bond New International Students

September 5th, 2023

During Bond's Orientation Week for our new international students, we embarked on an enriching journey filled with learning and unforgettable experiences. The first day included several comprehensive lectures, featuring a professional psychologist, a Toronto Police officer, and TTC officers. The psychological session was designed to equip students with valuable techniques for managing stress and emotions during their academic journey while in Canada. The psychologist shared methods on emotional awareness, encouraging students to observe and manage their emotions effectively.

The police officer provided insights into law enforcement measures and emphasized safety tips while spending their time in Canada. Specifically, this session enlightened them on their personal safety and how to safeguard against online fraud. Simultaneously, the TTC officers enlightened students about transit safety and the programs available for them through the TTC, which made for a well-rounded and informative experience. This informative session delved into the history of the TTC and introduced various communication tools. An exciting highlight was the chance to examine a police car and experience the weight of a police uniform. Later, alumnus of Bond shared their learning experiences at Bond and useful suggestions for new students about studying and applying for university. The second day of Orientation Week included a visit to downtown Toronto, which allowed students to explore the city's vibrant culture and enjoy breathtaking city views. They visited the University of Toronto's Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering and the Rotman Commerce, experiencing a sense of academic exploration. Students had a chance for face-to-face communication with U of T Admission Officers and received precious insights into the university application process. They also visited the Historical Distillery District for more immersive cultural experiences in Toronto.

On the third day, our Guidance Counselor and an International Admissions Officer's valuable suggestions left students feeling well-prepared for their educational journey. They shared essential school rules and recommended practical apps. In the afternoon, a trip to the Scarborough Town Centre provided students with a taste of the local community. The day trip to Niagara Falls, complete with a boat tour and thrilling roller coasters, filled students with surprise and excitement. The serene moments spent capturing memories in the picturesque Niagara-On-The-Lake park created lasting impressions of their Orientation Week.
